Classic Death Cab Except It's New submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2023, 11:42pm This offers everything you want and expect from a Death Cab For Cutie album without sounding dated or repetitive; it simply meshes in with their previous work and keeps everything moving forward in the best possible way. The songs are highly introspective and full of feeling, using clever wordplay and unexpected metaphors to tackle a range of human emotions and experiences without ever taking the obvious route. Instead, the songs invite you to meet them in the middle and bring your own feelings and experiences to the listening experience, making it highly personal while maintaining a broader appeal. The songs themselves fit somewhere into the indie rock template with hints of pop sprinkled in, particularly in the way that the songs use catchy riff-driven melodies as focal points; more than anything else, it sounds like an updated version of what the band has done so well for decades without feeling stagnant or like a retread of their best songwriting. The band is as good as ever here and anyone who has ever found themselves in one of their songs should pick this up and give it a spin.
