Better than the very low expectations I had for this type of movie, but weakens as it continues.. submitted by Tassos on April 1, 2023, 5:00pm I checked up on CHristian Dior, and by some conicidence he died in 1957, the year this movie starts with.

In the movie he is portrayed by an old man, but he died at only 52. Surprisingly, even in real life, he did look much older.

Overall this is a fun movie. Although obviously targeted at women, a man can enjoy it too. Unlike the other DVD I borrowed, some nonsense about a Mr Malcolm, a 100% chick movie aping Jane Austen (badly!)

SO this is fun, but not perfect. It starts ok, but it really defies credibility in many of its details.

It is some kind of aging Working class CInderella fairy tale.

And I suspected right. It is NOT based on any REAL events or characters. Just a fairy tale of varying degrees of enjoyment and credulity.

Unfortunately the movie deteriorates as it continues. It is obvious that while it is a movie about a working class British woman in France, it looks more like it was written by a "stupid American", and is aimed at other "stupid AMericans".

One of the most ridiculous and failed bits is the couple of young existentialists parroting Sartre quotes. Really PATHETIC and totally unconvincing. I almost puked at the bad acting and terrible script.

SO overall, unfortunately, this is a rather weak flick. Not that the semi-literate and zero-cultured american females it is aimed at will care.
