The Kindly Ones submitted by hrgray on July 6, 2023, 11:16am While I enjoyed this volume overall, the emotional quality of the story was undercut by the change in art style for me. Compared to previous volumes, everything is more simplistic, more angular, and depicted with darker, heavier lines. I guess it goes with the shift in tone, but personally I didn't find it nice to look at. Still an amazing book overall, though.

What happened to the art? submitted by kaymbre on July 20, 2023, 8:51am As a devoted fan of Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" series, I was eagerly anticipating Volume 9, "The Kindly Ones." While the story continued to captivate with its dark and intricate plotlines, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment in the art direction. The illustrations lacked the detailed, evocative style I had grown accustomed to in previous volumes, leaving some crucial scenes feeling flat and less emotionally impactful. While the narrative still held its brilliance, I found myself yearning for the art to match the grandeur of the story. Nevertheless, "The Kindly Ones" is a vital installment in the series, albeit not reaching the artistic heights I had hoped for.
