horrid submitted by pmheard on June 9, 2023, 11:12am i tried, really tried to look past the age gap, but as the film continued i just felt my disgust and discomfort grow. it honestly ruined the entire plot for me. it was like this looming morbid undertone that lingered between the intricacies of each scene, stealing every fantastic moment between alana and lance away. considering that this dynamic was central to the film, it effectively was tarnished. aside from the racist jokes of course.

i understand this is meant to be a time piece and capture the culture of an era, but there are certainly more tasteful ways to go about achieving that. all penalties aside, this film was beautifully shot, cut, edited, and mastered. truly wonderful to look at. the soundtrack was equally as enjoyable. all in all, a great film, but i can’t bear to give it much more credit given the glaringly painful lapses in judgement found in the script.


also where the heck is a 15 year old getting the funds to open up several different businesses within the span of mere months?
