Proto Punk-Rock submitted by Meginator on July 25, 2022, 11:25am Given blink-182’s lasting influence on popular music and the band’s own musical trajectory, it’s interesting to hear the rawness inherent in their first album. Musically, these tracks lean more toward pure punk than most of the band’s later work, although the bright pop-punk edges are clearly taking shape, and a few of the tracks have truly catchy memories that still hold up (even if the lyrics are fairly forgettable). This definitely isn’t the best place to begin with blink-182 despite it being their debut, but anyone who enjoys pop-punk should enjoy this journey into the genre’s origins; it’s raw and dirty and it begins to define and capture the spirit of a movement that would go on to dominate rock radio a few years later.
