Still Funny (Somehow) After All These Years submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:38pm I was pretty surprised that a collection of Garfield comic strips could still be so funny this late in the strip’s run, but I really enjoyed this installment. Jim Davis does a decent job of keeping up with technology, and while some of the smartphone-adjacent jokes fall a little flat others do an excellent job of bringing the strip’s classic humor into the modern era. This collection has a little bit of everything that makes the comic so effective when everything fires on all cylinders, including scathing one-liners, appearances by a robust supporting cast, and strips that show how, underneath it all, Jon and his pets really do love each other. Nothing here is terribly deep and a lot (maybe even most) of the joke subjects are more or less recycled from Garfield’s lengthy run, but the collection is an excellent representation of what has made Garfield so successful for so long.
