COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Not just another feel good movie submitted by ccrose on May 13, 2022, 11:10am I snagged this movie because of a brief review I’d read about its strengths. It didn’t fail me. A work-obsessed brother reluctantly agrees to help his sister as she struggles to step up to help her ex who has bipolar disorder. Her son is in need of a substitute parent. Joaquin Phoenix is the reluctant adult who doesn’t have time to lug a kid around but it turns out to be the one thing each need: each other.
I loved the genuine writing and acting, particularly the baffling tasks of fathering from a busy, always running uncle. Nothing about the writing is trite. They are each unique people. Of course, the boy has the key to touch his uncle’s heart. He’s wise and kind, demonstrating what those traits sound like. And Phoenix is caught up in the virgin territory of real talking, sharing, laughing. I was so happy to see Phoenix get a role like this one; far away from the spaced out, crazies he’s had in past. It’s a genuine bunch of people, just looking for love and , by golly, finding it.watched it twice. The tiny moments of simple comfort are what stay with me.
