Emily Henry keeps getting better submitted by eileenw on June 11, 2022, 6:39pm While Emily Henry's breakout novel BEACH READ was enjoyable, BOOK LOVERS is just as fun to read but the writing is tighter, the character building is stronger, and the humor is effortless. All the pieces fit together for a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience that has All The Feels.

The opening six pages are hilarious enough that I read them aloud to a family member who is also well-versed in the Tropes of RomComs. Nora's life is a RomCom Trope, except she's the villain, not the hero. Her significant-others keep taking business trips to small towns ... where they fall in love with a local then dump big-city-loving, work-loving, Peloton-riding Nora. BOOK LOVERS turns the trope around and gives the city-loving villain the chance to be the hero of her own story.

The main character expanded on the standard Hallmark romance, and was strong and motivated, while also showing the insecurity and stress that comes with it. Highly recommend.

The first couple of pages are perfect in setting up the cold-hearted, big city, workaholic woman who's usually left in the dust in other rom-coms as the feature attraction in this book. And it doesn't disappoint. You should read this, and all of Emily Henry's other books.

As others have mentioned, the rom com trope discussion was fun. I also enjoyed the focus on a female protagonist who's atypical in some ways. But for me, this just feel a bit flat. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.

This was so fun and worth waiting to get my hands on a copy. Very cute, and hit my expectations after the hype. Sometimes books with so much hype fall flat, in fact I think that happens often but this was great.

Loved the character development between the sisters Nora and Libby--and loved the romance between Nora and Charles. I've read this book twice already and I'm definitely planning to read it again!
