COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Strong submitted by Emily Atherton on June 14, 2022, 1:45pm This is an amazing picture book for kids 2-8, our 3-year old girl enjoyed the reading level and the colorful illustrations. It is a positive portrayal of a gay strong man facing down nerves and the expectations of clothing and hairstyles in strength and lifting competitions in the US. It's a great story about perseverance in the face of difficulty (and prejudice). Perfectly young-child appropriate and uses very simple concepts. Bonus: it's a true story, the author Rob Kearney is the only openly gay professional strongman and North American champion in the world and this is his story! We didn't know anything about strong man competitions before reading this, but it was still a fantastic book to read for Pride. Also, now my 3-year-old wants to lift cars.
