Retrofuturistic Cool submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:50pm This classic album has a (now) retro-futuristic sense of cool too it, despite the band’s protestations to the contrary in the first track. The use of synthesizers gives the songs a unique sound, although the band’s true genius is in their taste for simplicity and streamlining. Nothing feels extraneous, even with the slightly sci-fi elements in the instrumentation, and the tracks come together with a nice sense of balance and with occasional touches of humor. This feels like an album of its time in a lot of ways, but it holds up nicely as well.
