"22 seconds...until Lindsay Boxer loses her badge--or her life. SFPD Sergeant Lindsay Boxer has guns on her mind. There's buzz of a last-ditch shipment of drugs and weapons crossing the Mexican border ahead of new restrictive gun laws. Before Lindsay can act, her top informant tips her to a case that hits disturbingly close to home. Former cops. Professional hits. All with the same warning scrawled on their bodies: You talk, you die. Now it's Lindsay's turn to choose"-- Publisher's website.

Disappointing submitted by GJBarnett2 on May 9, 2022, 12:46am The McGuffin is a convoy of trucks loaded with "automatic long guns," i.e. fully automatic rifles like military AKs and ARs, otherwise known as machine guns, and fentanyl coming in from Mexico. Bodies drop freely. A vaguely described new law seems to make machine guns illegal and so all the gun nuts are out in force, claiming violation of the Second Amendment, although they don't figure in the story line except to make the point that "gun nuts" and the Second Amendment are bad, bad, bad. The real bad guys the cartels smuggling tons of illegal stuff across the border. BTW, authors appear to be unaware that "machine guns" have been pretty much illegal in the US since 1934. Some exceptions, true, but taxed and regulated and just try to go ahead and buy one and see how easy that is. The thing is that the "convoy of contraband" story would work just as well whether the contraband was guns of drugs or whatever. In other words, making the contraband guns and drugs rather than just drugs is purely gratuitous, adding nothing to the story line but making the point about guns, gun nuts, etc., etc. And that's what makes this political propaganda.
