Not your typical Mac Barnett submitted by rea2mill on July 11, 2022, 11:39pm In the linked subject section below they should really list this book with other books about emotions. John is very clearly nervous to perform in front of the whole school. Much of the story relies heavily on the illustrations to communicate John’s feelings and overcoming them. Kate Berube is good at that. She accomplished a similar task with The Sandcastle that Lola Built. This was a softer sort of story than we’ve come to expect from Mac Barnett. Not his usual humor. It was good though. Myself and my 5 year old both enjoyed this book.
