Indie Goes Alt-Rock submitted by Meginator on July 29, 2023, 11:48pm This indie-rock album has some grungy undertones to it, which fits in nicely with the album title, but it lacks the impossibly catchy hooks that characterize Spoon’s best songs. That said, the combination of alt-rock distortion and pop-influenced songwriting sensibilities works surprisingly well and feels like a step forward for good old rock music in the way that it incorporates traditional influences and slightly distorts them. Slightly different but never alienating, this is a great album for fans of thoughtful, but not overly ponderous, music. Spoon has a way of catching the zeitgeist while staying just a step ahead of it, and this is yet another example of that peculiar talent of theirs.
