Too much flex submitted by oriolbt on July 19, 2023, 10:46am This album had lots of replayability for me when it dropped, but looking back it feels like a slight regression on Tyler's part. After the sonic highs of Igor and the melodic experimentation of Flower Boy, I was hoping for something a little more invigorating than an album full of materialistic boasts. Sonically, it's a really good rap album, and Tyler's cadence is masterful. Even lyrically, the boasts themselves are original, often witty, hilarious, or both. But this one didn't hit AOTY status the way Igor did. Much has been written elsewhere, more eloquently, about the new persona "Tyler Baudelaire" which he adopts on this album, and the (probably overstated) similarities with the eponymous Charles and the tradition/aesthetics of Romanticism. "Lemonhead" stays on repeat though
