Great illustrations submitted by bcartm01 on June 10, 2022, 8:24pm Loved the pictures. I am, however, really surprised that this book was published in 2022, is that right? Pretzel, the male dog, wanted to marry the female dog in the book. She kept rejecting him until one day she fell into a hole and had to be rescued by pretzel, an abnormally long dog, after which she finally agreed to marry him. There was a brief statement she made about not marrying him bc he saved her, but this attempt at redemption was a little weird. I felt like she finally agreed to marry him because she owed him for saving her. I didn’t like the message, it seems very out of date.

Out of date. submitted by tmkenn on July 31, 2023, 12:08am I had to tell my kids multiple times during this book-“When someone shows you or tells you who they are believe them!”

This is a recipe book for an unhappy life. Please read with caution. It made me kind of sad because my daughter loves dogs so the messaging kind of went over her head for the love of the dogs.

The female dog tells the male dog over and over that she doesn’t want to marry him. Her reasoning is superficial- he’s too long. We teach our kids not to judge based on looks. People are beautifully different. He tries to convince her by giving her nice things, being kind etc, and then obviously there’s issues of consent at play too.. is he wearing her down to the yes? Did she say yes because he saved her life? This book was really problematic to me but it opened the door for discussions as to why. I just hope the why didn’t go over my kids heads.
