Ireland, Great Britain & Brittany submitted by yufamily on June 19, 2022, 9:41pm A really old, 2004, DVD with no closed caption.

Not bad submitted by majean on July 22, 2022, 3:39pm Some good info, but I had a difficult time paying attention.

All Over the Place and of Questionable Veracity submitted by Meginator on August 22, 2022, 10:04am This documentary is bizarre, but its lack of focus, combined with its earnestness, gives it a kind of strange charm; I cannot really recommend it, but it’s amusing in all the ways it misses the mark. Nominally a journey through Ireland, Great Britain, and Brittany as viewed through regional legends, the film lacks any sort of meaningful through-line and its segues, when they do exist, are almost entirely nonsensical or (more charitably) merely coincidental. One minute you’re talking about ancient Celtic gods inventing chess (which is factually untrue, as the game originated in India and spread to Europe from the south), the next minute you’re watching tourists kiss the Blarney Stone, for reasons unexplained. What good is a brief mention of monks being brewers without taking a trip to the modern Guinness Brewery, founded only about a millennium later? Despite the documentary’s best efforts, I did manage to learn about some of the connections between Ireland, Scotland, and Brittany (England and Wales are basically ignored) and about different facets of the King Arthur legend that are often ignored in English and American popular culture, but the film is all over the place in a way that is somehow both charming and frustrating. I recommend going into this prepared to take everything with a giant grain of salt, although at least it isn’t boring.
