Jess needs a fresh start. She's broke and alone, and she's just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn't sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn't say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up, to find a very nice apartment, (could Ben really have afforded this?) he's not there. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother's situation, and the more questions she has. Ben's neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it's starting to look like it's Ben's future that's in question. The socialite. The nice guy. The alcoholic. The girl on the verge. The concierge. Everyone's a neighbor. Everyone's a suspect. And everyone knows something they're not telling.

Similar to other Foley books submitted by jjly8 on June 15, 2022, 3:15pm If you've found that you have enjoyed Lucy Foley in the past, you'll like this one too. It's a quick read with a lot of characters bouncing back and forth between each. The mystery is a little convoluted but entertaining nonetheless.

O M G.... Just tell us a story already! submitted by bookher on June 17, 2022, 2:39pm I wanted so much to love this book because the plot summary is a good one but I just couldn't finish this one. The author needed to focus more on telling a good story than describing Paris in a way that makes me think she's never been there before.

Read something else submitted by Linda Brainer on April 8, 2023, 6:29pm I can not understand how this book could be a New York Time's best seller. Although the premise is interesting, it is too far-fectched. The descriptions of the character and their emotions are very repetitive and rather one dimensional...how many times does one have to read about the smell of Ben's sweat? If you like good mystery novels don't waste your time on this one.

Just okay submitted by ehautman on August 7, 2023, 9:53am I really enjoyed other books by this author, but this one wasn't my favorite. It was a quick read and had an interesting enough plot, but was also relatively predictable and left me underwhelmed.
