Recently divorced and on the verge of bankruptcy, Dahlia Woodson is ready to reinvent herself on the popular reality competition show Chef's Special. Too bad the first memorable move she makes is falling flat on her face, sending fish tacos flying--not quite the fresh start she was hoping for. Still, she's focused on winning, until she meets someone she might want a future with more than she needs the prize money. After announcing their pronouns on national television, London Parker has enough on their mind without worrying about the klutzy competitor stationed in front of them. They're there to prove the trolls--including a fellow contestant and their dad--wrong, and falling in love was never part of the plan. As London and Dahlia get closer, reality starts to fall away. Goodbye, guilt about divorce, anxiety about uncertain futures, and stress from transphobia. Hello, hilarious shenanigans on set, wedding crashing, and spontaneous dips into the Pacific. But as the finale draws near, Dahlia and London's steamy relationship starts to feel the heat both in and outside the kitchen--and they must figure out if they have the right ingredients for a happily ever after.

Love & Other Disasters submitted by russelan on June 20, 2022, 8:49pm I appreciated how much care went into this book. I liked London and Dahlia.. I thought the cooking show setting was just fine - I didn't feel like I really got a good sense of the show.

Had So Much Potential submitted by LMahlmeister on July 18, 2022, 8:46am The premises of this book was great- I loved the idea of the cooking show and the queer love story. The book was well-written and very well developed- in particular, London. With all that potential, I still just found this book too long and too boring. It is about 100 pages longer than it needs to be.

Nonbinary Representation submitted by Beatlesfan04 on June 28, 2023, 2:59pm This book was one of the first, first-person nonbinary character representations I've read. I thought it was really well done, and the two main characters were developed well. I wish we saw more interaction with the other contestants, but I understand that the two main characters only had eyes for each other. The conflict point was predictable, and there were some unresolved points (like London's financial privilege), but overall it was an easy book to get into and get engrossed in. I love cooking competitions and queer romance novels, so this book fit the bill.
