In a country governed by isolation, fear, and a tyrannical dictator, seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer, but he decides to use his position to try to outwit his handler, undermine the regime, give voice to fellow Romanians, and expose to the world what is happening in his country. Felt incomplete submitted by russelan on June 20, 2022, 8:31pm I appreciated learning about a piece of history I knew nothing about, but the story felt kind of rushed, incomplete. I didn't feel like I got to know the characters well enough. It was an interesting premise but I wanted more out of it

Excellent historical fiction submitted by ahlalejini on July 16, 2022, 9:18am I love Ruta Sepetys and this was a great read about something I knew very little about

Wish it was longer submitted by alisonhatch94 on August 16, 2022, 1:49pm I knew nothing about this part of Romanian history and I think the author is great at writing historical fiction. I always enjoy the stories and learn so much from her books. I do wish there was more to this story, I agree that it felt a little rushed and things seemed to happen very quickly all at the end.

Love Historical Fiction submitted by vtabor on June 15, 2023, 11:22am This book reminded me why I love historical fiction. You are able to see and learn about historical events (in this case, the Romanian Revolution of 1989) through the perspective of a fictional literary narrative. The short chapters made this a very digestible read. Especially great if you love novels taking place in Cold War Eastern Europe.
