This program follows the humorous and heartfelt journey of six wildlife artists competing to win the Federal Duck Stamp Contest. Feathers will be ruffled and some egos will be bruised, but for one contestant, winning "the Olympics of wildlife art" will be life-changing.

A Fascinating Artistic Subculture submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:27pm This short documentary follows a group of artists competing to have their paintings chosen as the winner of the 2014 Federal Duck Stamp contest. The film provides some background information about the Duck Stamp program, which (appropriately) generates funding for wetland preservation, but the focus rests primarily on a small group of participants. The film follows an excellent range of personalities, from a young artist who is just beginning her career to a trio of brothers who have absolutely dominated the past few decades; perhaps the most interesting (and definitely the most controversial) is an artist who brings a punk rock spirit to the competition, either revitalizing an old-fashioned contest or mocking the artists who take a more literal approach to wildlife painting, depending on who you ask. Although the documentary itself is straightforward and always proceeds by the numbers, it does provide an engrossing introduction to a small artistic subculture.
