Funny submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 14, 2023, 1:03pm The science fiction novel that is actually funny is a rare jewel. This is one such gem.
Part of Charles Stross' Laundry Files universe, "Quantum of Nightmares" is the second in a new series within that universe: Tales of the New Management. Instead of focusing on Bob, Moe and their colleagues, Stross introduces a new set of characters for these books.
The funniest plot line follows Mary who poses as a nanny (with all the Mary Poppins references) for a family of supernaturals, only to discover that the four children not only outnumber her but have super hero talents that outwit her efforts to kidnap them. Don't worry. It ends happily (spoiler).
Warning: This book does include some cannibalisms. As a vegetarian, that made me feel very self righteous.
