Metal Can Work in an Acoustic Format! submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:21pm Megadeth’s brand of metal translates surprisingly well into the unplugged format, although the use of a full drum kit sometimes overwhelms the rest of the instruments. Nonetheless, the format places the vocals at the fore, and they shine through quite well, conveying a broader emotional range than in the fully electric versions of these songs. The music still hits hard, with the familiar guitar patterns landing differently on acoustic instruments but still providing a constantly driving rhythm that gives the songs their power, and it is possible to forget that these performances don’t reflect the band’s original intentions for the songs. This is a great reminder, for anyone who needs it, that metal is far more than its distortion and growls; the people behind it are skilled musicians who know how to craft and carry a tune.
