All Of Us Villains description and thoughts submitted by geeves on January 15, 2024, 11:32am There are two types of magic: common magic, which is everywhere, and high magic, which is double the power of common magic. And then there’s life magic, which is its own thing entirely. All high magic is gone, or so everyone thinks…In Ilvernath, every 20 years under the blood moon 7 families select a champion that will participate in a secret fight to the death tournament. Who ever wins gets a supply of high magic for their family, until the next tournament. Except this year is different. A book that tells everyone exactly what happens under the blood moon draws tourists and the government to Ilvernath. The some of the champions have become celebrities and others are hated. Alistair is part of the most powerful and the most merciless family: the Lowes. He has been raised on monster stories and has taken them and has taken them to heart. The only person he’s nice to is his brother, Hendry, but when something tragic happens he becomes distraught and realizes that maybe there are some things, other than winning worth fighting for. Isobel Macaslan is the face of the tournament. The media have loved her ever since someone announced that she would be the Macaslan champion. All of a sudden her father and his family are paying attention to her without considering if she even wanted to do it in the first place. But when an accident happens right before the tournament, she’s going to have to use all of her resources if she wants to survive. Gavin is a Greive, the weakest family. No one expects him to win, not even his family. And, to make matters worse, everyone thinks that a Greive wrote the book. Gavin is desperate to win, but no one will support him. So he makes a deal, that mulitates his magic and all of a sudden he’s powerful. But there are unexpected consequences and he might’ve been better off without it. Briony Thorburn has wanted to be her family’s champion all her life, but when outside forces get involved with her family’s selection process, her sister gets selected instead. Briony is devastated, but then she learned of something that could break the tournament for good. The only problem is, she’s not in the tournament, and her sister won’t listen to her. The only way in is force her sister to give her her place, but it’s for the greater good, right? As the blood moon rises the tournament begins, but the rules are changing and not everyone is who you think they are.

I love this book so much, because it does a really good job showing that people have different sides to them, and don’t always do the right thing (some characters more than others). It has 4 different POVs as well as two other main characters whose POV we don’t see. It’s written well and is the first in a duology and the second book (All Of Our Demise) is just as good, and wraps up the story well. This book is especially good for people who are tired of books portraying characters who always end up doing the right thing and always staying on the same side.
