Unexpected submitted by FordAlpha on July 12, 2023, 8:52pm My kids and I enjoyed this absurdist tale, which does not always go in the direction you might expect. Beginning as a sly and silly parody of Eric Carle's indispensable caterpillar, "The Very Hungry Plant" quickly escalates far beyond that insect's terrestrial ambitions. When the "twist" ending finally arrives, it's nowhere near as surprising as some of the plant's prey that preceded it. For a cute picture book with the same kind of "twist" -- although not the same theme leading up to it -- I recommend "I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean!" by Kevin Sherry.
