Inspired By a True Story submitted by Meginator on July 25, 2022, 11:21am This picture book tells a sweet story about a boy who eventually succeeds in convincing his parents to get him a cat, only to find that the feline in question does not quite live up to his expectations. However, a combination of persistence and happy accident allows them to find an activity to bond over (apparently inspired by a true story!), gently inspiring readers to approach others with patience and openness. Though I didn’t quite care for the design of the human characters, I loved Blackall’s depictions of various cats and their perplexing behaviors, and as a cat owner I recognized the truth in a lot of the book’s jokes. Though it wasn’t as outwardly humorous as I had expected, I did enjoy the book’s approach to the strangeness inherent in our feline friends (even the non-negative ones).
Cute and wholesome submitted by chowcy on July 6, 2023, 6:55pm I'm a big cat lover and whenever I talk to people who don't like cats, they bring up qualities that this so-called "negative cat" has. Cats "aren't friendly", you can't train them, etc. The thing is, cats are not things that are there to entertain you or be your buddy, they are just other beings that you learn to accept, just as they are. This book brings out that important lesson of being patient and accepting of others, in a very cute, digestible way. Love the illustrations too!
Read to your animals submitted by trina05 on July 18, 2023, 9:05pm We love that negative cat, Max, is a great listener to young readers just like our dog, Bebop. He too has some negative habits but once you rescue, the love grows
