Style Over Substance submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:33pm While I enjoyed the sound of this album on a surface level, it doesn’t have a lot of depth to it and feels preoccupied with style at the expense of substance (of any kind). The band clearly knows how to craft a catchy melody, but they employ this talent only sparingly, resulting in a lack of anything memorable. While the general texture of the album is a pleasant hum of indie rock with just a hint of pop sensibility to it, its impact disappears entirely as soon as the runtime ends. This feels to me like an updated version of mid-00s indie rock posturing without the creativity or novelty that set the great albums of that era apart.
