"A Black father. A white father. Two murdered sons. A quest for vengeance. Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah's white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek's father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy. Ike and Buddy Lee, two ex-cons with little else in common other than a criminal past and a love for their dead sons, band together in their desperate desire for revenge. In their quest to do better for their sons in death than they did in life, hardened men Ike and Buddy Lee will confront their own prejudices about their sons and each other, as they rain down vengeance upon those who hurt their boys. Provocative and fast-paced, S. A. Cosby's Razorblade Tears is a story of bloody retribution, heartfelt change - and maybe even redemption"-- Provided by publisher.

Gritty, Fantastic Mystery submitted by bll1010 on June 21, 2023, 10:17pm This was an incredible book! I loved the two main characters in all of the pains and imperfectness. The mystery is very compelling, but their growing friendship and understanding of each other drives the book just as much. This was a unique book. I highly recommend it.

predictable from start to finish submitted by danmurphey on July 2, 2023, 11:26am I attempted to read the author's first book but gave it a toss after two chapters, attributing the content to immaturity. I lasted a bit longer ('til Chapter 11) with Razorblade Tears (RT) but arrived at the same conclusion. Why do aspiring mystery writers feel obligated to fill the pages with cliched and ludicrous metaphors and similes?!? Here are a few leaden and cringe-worthy examples from RT: 1. "The manager was pale as the belly of a fish;" 2. "His blond hair was slicked back with so much product a fly would break its neck trying to land on it;" "His eyes shined like wet concrete." Ugh.
Even worse, the protagonist and his white drunken sidekick act as out-of-control vigilantes. After some ten chapters, I decided that there was no one worthy of empathy. Save yourself from this worn-out, time-sucking plot -- move on to the next book in your queue.

Thriller with an LGBTQ Twist submitted by TeacherN on July 5, 2023, 1:15pm This is not the type of book I normally read, but I could not put this down. (Actually, I listened to the audio book and listened non-stop for hours on end.) The ending was predictable, but I loved the complexity as well as the growth and reflection of the two main characters. Adam Lazarre-White is the voice actor who read the audio book. His voice is very enjoyable to listen to!

Best on Audio submitted by JJM.Deucher on July 18, 2023, 7:19am Cosby has become my author of the summer of '23. I'd recommend this as an audio book as the reader, Adam Lazarre-White, has a great voice and helps to make the characters come alive. As mentioned by others there is some degree of predictability as well as implausibility, but it is fiction and Cosby is great at character development which had me finding myself listening to this book non-stop.
