"A biography of astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who helped build a radio telescope that helped her discover pulsars, a new type of star. Some scientists consider it the greatest astronomical discovery of the twentieth century. Despite this achievement, she was overlooked in favor of two male colleagues when the Nobel Prize for physics was awarded. Bell is still working and teaching today, with recognition"-- Provided by publisher.

Beautiful Illustrations to Match a Good Story submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 7:21pm This biography of Jocelyn Bell Burnell covers her journey toward becoming an astronomer at the University of Cambridge, where she discovered pulsars and neutron stars. The book deals directly with the sexism Burnell faced throughout her life, to the point where it is a major thematic component of the story, with an emphasis on her early life and a nice coda about her lengthy teaching career. The illustrations elevate the text into a beautiful piece of art, with the illustrations of space especially stunning in the way that they use vibrant colors. The combined work of the writer and illustrator make this a great choice for young readers who are interested in astronomy or who are discouraged because others assume they cannot study or do something because of their gender.
