Rough Around the Edges submitted by Meginator on July 25, 2022, 10:32pm This album is a project that should be listened to in full, with few distractions; the music gradually changes shape and shifts throughout the course of the album, making for a moving cohesive experience that holds together really well. The style is incredibly stripped-down throughout, with Nick Cave’s scratchy vocals and the lyrics creating the focal point of every track and light instrumental accompaniments providing some mood-setting flourishes. Some of the lyrics are violent and a bit aggressive, and the style won’t be to everyone’s taste, but the execution largely matches the ambition here to create a memorable experience.
