Wonderfully fresh soundtrack submitted by mariekakaye on June 18, 2021, 10:47pm While I love the original Broadway soundtrack, the fresh take on it in the movie is wonderful. The actors are so talented, and they stay true to the original in the way they sing the songs.. I wish they didn’t have to cut so many songs from the original, but I like what remains. Highly recommend!

Some of the singing can be a little eh and they also left out some of the best songs. But for the most part it's a good soundtrack with a lot of talent and fun.

Not Quite as Good as the Broadway Version submitted by Meginator on August 22, 2022, 10:02am As with a lot of Broadway shows making the leap onto the big screen, the music in this adaptation feels a bit more hollow than the original theatrical version. However, the strength of the songwriting and the musical’s sense of place remain, as does Lin-Manuel Miranda’s signature compositional style. The general feeling is uplifting and celebratory, with Latin rhythms incorporated into more traditional Broadway standbys to create a unique soundscape (to say nothing of Miranda’s clever wordplay and his generous sprinkling of rap throughout the musical numbers), and the story is familiar but executed well through these particular characters and in this particular setting. Start with the original Broadway cast recording if you’re interested in this musical, but consider checking this out for a comparison and to see how the musical lives on beyond its opening day performers.
