intense and thrilling true story submitted by yufamily on July 19, 2021, 4:10pm Benedict Cumberbatch deserves an Oscar.

excellent actors

Great Movie based on REAL events and people. submitted by Tassos on December 2, 2023, 4:44pm You should not view this movie like an idiot who never asks a question and believes everything, but instead RESEARCH it on the Web (most conveniently) or elsewhere to learn the TRUE story.

The basic facts of the movie are, surprisingly, true. And the lead actor looks a whole lot like the Brit businessman he portrays.

However, the other lead actor, the Russian, looks NOTHING like the REAL Oleg, who looked like a very typical Russian, with a very pale, round face and a little upturned nose..

Some scenes and dialogues either clearly or probably never happened like they are shown, or even never existed, BUT this is a MOVIE, not a DOCUMENTARY, there is dramatic license, and I am OK with that.

Here are some things the movie did not tell you:

At the end of the movie, the Brit's wife feels very bad that she doubted her husband and is told how unbelievably brave he was. IN REAL LIFE, they divorced some time after he returned to her, for whatever reason. Makes her look very ungrateful but who knows what went on behind closed doors? The movie mentions that he drank a lot, which can never be good.

And actually, while he married again, he separated his second wife.

He died rather young, at 71 or so in 1990, BUT the poor Russian was executed at only 44..

PS Some idiot tells you to watch the movie to ..."Learn about the Cuban Missile Crisis". You will learn VERY LITTLE from ANY MOVIE. If you SERIOUSLY want to educate yourself about that crisis, READ A DAMNED BOOK, A SERIOUS HISTORY BOOK. NOT A DAMNED NOVEL OR FAIRY TALE!
