"Glitter + Ashes: Queer Tales of a World That Wouldn't Die is an anthology of post-apocalyptic fiction centering queer joy and community in the face of disaster. What does hope look like when everything is lost? Now, more than ever, we need to revel in the bright spots amidst the darkness. The twenty-three stories (and two poems) contained here, as well as the roleplaying game Dream Askew by Avery Alder, imagine queer community in myriad futures interrupted by collapse. Post-apocalyptic futures glittering and bleak, challenging and eerie. Glitter + Ashes is here to hold up a torch. Come gather round the fire" -- From Amazon.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

An Important Collection submitted by Meginator on June 23, 2023, 11:43pm This collection of short stories may feature a few grim visions of the apocalypse, but each one is built on a sense of hopefulness and heart that comes from the ways that queer people find each other and create communities. The stories have a variety of tones and revolve around significantly different types of apocalyptic disasters, giving the collection a nice sense of balance and ensuring that it never becomes one-note or boring; while some of these scenarios are more familiar or more fully sketched out than others, each one brings the author’s unique perspective, and it’s refreshing to know that however bleak things may seem, each story has a sense of queer solidarity at its core. The anthology has several standout entries across a range of approaches and even includes the rules for tabletop roleplaying game, although the absence of required supplementary materials makes it feel a bit hollow. By turns triumphant and tragic, these stories imagine the end of the world from a different, yet necessary, perspective, and fans of apocalyptic fiction or anyone looking to discover excellent queer writers should enjoy the book.
