A Surprising Change of Pace from Metheny submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:24pm This album features Pat Metheny’s original compositions for solo guitar and guitar quartet, and it’s a surprising change of pace from his usual jazz fusion fare (in fact, I wouldn’t even categorize it as jazz at all). The pieces are intricate and obviously require a lot of technical skill yet they never compromise their inherent musical integrity in the name of sounding impressive. Because of the style of jazz Pat Metheny usually plays, he can be overlooked as a guitarist and as a composer; this album, however, makes a strong argument for his legacy both within and outside of the realm of jazz.
