Ruthie Midona has worked the front desk of Providence Retirement Villa for years, living on-site at the beck and call of the wealthy residents-- and the rare tortoises that roam the lawn. Teddy Prescott, son of Providence's new owner, is in town saving up money to pursue his dream of opening a tattoo shop. He's the definition of risky, and Ruthie's dazzled-- until he mistakes her for an old lady! She has revenge in mind: her most eccentric residents, the Parloni sisters, have placed an ad seeking a personal assistant. Not one of their assistants have lasted a week. As Teddy charms his way through the Villa, his family's plans threaten to ruin Ruthie's universe. Will he be there when it really counts? -- adapted from jacket

Another gem from sally thorne submitted by Princess Cimorene on July 20, 2021, 10:47pm I love Sally Thorne's books. I always care about the characters and this one was no exception. This story is memorable for the retirement home setting, fantastic side characters, and super fun, un-grumpy hero.

We need happy endings submitted by kkjammers on June 19, 2022, 7:15pm Sally Thorne’s rom com novel "Second First Impressions" is a delightful, fast-moving story. No dense text to wade through here. I appreciated her title, wondering if the story might follow an Austen-esque plot line. The main character’s (Ruthie’s) first encounter with the leading man, Teddy, is certainly a bit testy - he insults her - a la Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Descriptions are short and witty. I did not appreciate the many references to large penises from the get-go. Really? After a few chapters, frequent references switched away from penises to Teddy’s glossy black mane of hair. Thorne’s novel creates a satisfying escapist place I wouldn’t mind visiting. Clever one-liners and kind-hearted characters are part of this book’s charm.

A fun, fast read submitted by pamhockey25 on July 18, 2022, 4:19pm Ruthie loves working at Providence Retirement Villa where housing is included and she's gunning for a manager position. Teddy is a free spirit who can't be tied down until he makes a deal with his dad--the developer at Providence for a place to stay as long as he's working. Enter the Parloni sisters, a couple of 90 year old ladies who love to keep good looking men around at their beck and call. Hijinks ensue. Teddy does some growing up. Ruthie relaxes a little. Quirky and adorable.
