Jane has fallen in love with Duncan, a man who has slept with most of the women in town. He's so agreeable that he still mows his ex-wife's lawn and allows his co-worker Jimmy free access to his apartment. When Duncan is injured in a serious car crash, Jane has to figure out how to find happiness.

Not quite as described submitted by Zekicmom on July 29, 2021, 9:42pm I enjoyed this book. I felt invested in Jane, the main character, quickly, and loved all the Michigan details as the story takes place in Boyne City. I am however confused by the description of the book above. A car crash does play a significant place in the story, but it doesn't involve Duncan.

Technically clever submitted by kkjammers on August 24, 2021, 7:23pm Heiny excels in detailed description and dialogue. I chose to read this book partly because of its setting in northern Michigan and in an attempt to find uplifting fiction. Although the story moves rapidly and I was fairly engaged, I became disenchanted with the story as it neared the end. Many characters grow, showing warmth, patience, and concern for others, but sometimes their distinguishing peculiarities grated on me. I hoped that a major event that occurs in the story would be resolved satisfactorily, but was disappointed. Perhaps this is true of life: things don't always work out well; however, the major characters do appear content with their circumstances as the book ends.

Enjoyable submitted by lizgiessner on July 11, 2023, 10:50am The setting was definitely a positive aspect of the story. I also enjoyed that the main character, Jane, is a skilled teacher providing humorous takes on things going on in the classroom and with parents. I plan to read more by Heiny.
