A Great Historical Read!
submitted by ksullivan on July 1, 2023, 3:20pm
I LOVED Ophie's Ghosts. This historical-mystery-fantasy starts when Ophie, who lives with her parents in a small town in the early 20th century, is woken up in the middle of the night by her father, who leads Ophie and her mom to safety from a house fire set off by racist white arsonists. The twist: the next morning, when she wakes up hiding in the woods with her mother, she discovers her father was a ghost.
A few weeks later--Ophie and her mom have moved to Pittsburgh to live with The Cousins, who are consistently cruel to their new roommates, and start work at a haunted mansion. There, Ophie discovers and befriends the ghosts that live there, and tries to help them. But when everything spirals out of control, and Ophie's family is struggling more than ever, will she be able to control it?
This book was AMAZING. FIVE STARS. PUT IT ON YOUR SUMMER READING LIST. OR WINTER READING LIST. REALLY, I DON'T CARE, AS LONG AS YOU READ IT. If you like ghost stories, this book is for you. If you like mystery, this book is for you. And if you like historical fiction, this book is DEFINITELY FOR YOU. (Sorry I'm using so many caps. I just REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS BOOK. Oops, I did it again!) Thank you!
