"complicated, but worth it" submitted by nemiller on July 19, 2022, 10:13pm While each of the four stories stands on its own, when read together, they create a fascinating and many-layered understanding of the world-building. The first story goes in some unexpected directions, which take on extra layers of meaning when paired with the other stories. Prophet of Corruption (the second story, basically a novella) is an interesting mix of philosophy and science fiction, which I know I will be thinking about for days to come. A review on goodreads describes it as "complicated but worth it," and I think that sums it up very well.

Beyond the fascinating world-building and the interesting philosophical questions, above all, these stories are full of heart. Things do not come easy for our protagonists, but like the stories themselves, their journeys are complicated but worth it.

One quick note: I started with listening to the audiobook on overdrive, but I found the narrator for Prophet of Corruption just wasn't for me. If you have the choice, I recommend reading it in print.
