helps kids understand the pandemic lockdown submitted by bubbah4eva on July 16, 2021, 11:46am Absolutely beautiful pictures, per usual for Floca. This book helps kids understand that we are all dependent on each other -- that those of us lucky enough to have stayed home and stayed safe during march 2020 were dependent on essential workers.
Salute to Essential Workers submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 10:59am This picture book is a tribute to the essential workers who, as the title puts it, kept our cities going during the first few weeks and months of pandemic lockdown. Given the subject matter, the book can be a bit emotionally difficult to read, but the gentle text offers opportunity for reflection as well as celebrating the many people who made it possible for so many others to stay at home. The illustrations pack in a lot of detail, particularly in city scenes and vehicles, and include some nice heartening touches here and there. This book feels very of the moment and the subject may still be too raw for some, but I think it will hold up well as a reminder of what spring 2020 felt like, for better and for worse.
