Into thin air -- Becoming an epidemic -- What thinness takes -- On concern and choice -- The desirability myth -- Such a pretty face -- First, do no harm -- The world to come.
"From the creator of Your Fat Friend, an explosive indictment on the systemic and cultural issues facing plus-sized people that will move us toward creating an agenda for fat justice"-- Provided by publisher.
To be fat is considered far more than a health concern: overweight people can be denied doctors' services or jobs, are mocked on airplanes, are the punchline of jokes. Gordon unearths the cultural attitudes and social systems that have led to people being denied basic needs because they are fat and calls for social justice movements to be inclusive of plus-sized people's experiences. She pushes the discussion towards authentic fat activism, which includes ending legal weight discrimination, giving equal access to health care for large people, increased access to public spaces, and ending anti-fat violence. -- adapted from jacket

Good perspective submitted by bookher on June 17, 2022, 2:36pm I enjoyed reading this book and learning about this uncommon perspective when thinking of weight and fat. The trouble I had with it is that I do not entirely agree with all the author has said. I know I am healthier when I am thinner than when I am 30 lbs overweight so no one will convince me that being overweight is healthy. I simply feel better and more physically capable when I am thinner.

Fat Justice submitted by hjzechar on July 15, 2022, 3:49pm I'm a big fan of the Maintenance Phase podcast, so if course I loved this book by co-host Aubrey Gordon. Gordon uses her own experience as a fat person to draw attention to anti-fat bias and it's very real and detrimental effects. Absolutely not a diet book
