Bell has spent his whole life--all eleven years of it--on Mars. But he's still just a regular kid-he loves cats, any kind of cake, and is curious about the secrets the adults in the US colony are keeping. Like, why don't have contact with anyone on the other Mars colonies? Why are they so isolated? When a virus breaks out and the grown-ups all fall ill, Bell and the other children are the only ones who can help. It's up to Bell--a regular kid in a very different world--to uncover the truth and save his family...and possibly unite an entire planet. Mars may be a world far, far away, but in the hands of Jennifer L. Holm, beloved and bestselling author of The Fourteenth Goldfish, it can't help but feel like home.

The Lion of Mars submitted by jhaberich on July 7, 2021, 8:03am If you've ever read Space Case, by Stuart Gibbs, then a lot of this book will seem quite similar. It takes place on Mars instead of the moon, but it's about a boy who lives in outer space and gets into trouble quite frequently. It tells you about the hardships of living on another planet, as well as being a great book to enjoy.

The Lion of Mars submitted by minghsuan on August 28, 2021, 3:28pm This book was suspenseful the entire way through, which was great. It was sort of like they had to play a game, and they had to complete missions and stuff.

Middle school issues on Mars submitted by cdeucher on July 20, 2023, 7:33am Jennifer Holm gets kids. The book presents eleven year old Bell's quiet, day-to-day existence on the red planet as he worries over friendships, does chores, and begins to ask questions about the world around him. An unauthorized adventure on a rover to see what is happening elsewhere only peaks everyone's curiousity about the neighboring communities. Finally a virus strikes all the adults and the only chance for a good outcome for the grownups they love is to interact with these forbidden communities.
