"Sadie Sprocket is a girl with a big dream ... to go to Mars! No one has been to Mars (yet!), so of course that's where Sadie sets her sights. She learns everything she can about the planet and space, then assembles her crew of trusty stuffed animals. Together they build a rocket and prepare for the historic journey. And then finally ... blastoff!--Amazon.com.

Good for Would-Be Astronauts submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2021, 12:10pm This book never loses a beat as its plucky protagonist constructs and pilots a spaceship. The main downside of the book, for me, is that I wasn’t sure whether the story was supposed to be literal or metaphorical, particularly because Sadie’s crew is made up of her stuffed animals. Nonetheless, the words bounce along nicely in a regular meter and the book has enough of a plot arc to remain engaging, with a nice kicker in the final stanza. This isn’t exceptional or even particularly unique in the emerging girl-scientist genre, but young readers who are into building and into space travel should enjoy it a lot and it makes for a good read-aloud choice.
