When you run a museum, you decide what’s beautiful! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in the high-stakes world of fine art auctions, there's nothing more beautiful than making a buck. In modern art, players take on the role of curators, buying and selling paintings for their museum. Over the course of four rounds, they take part in a number of auctions, trying to get the best value for the pieces in their collection. Whoever makes the most money wins the game (and keeps their job).

Looks great, interesting play. submitted by bfields on February 27, 2022, 11:56am Over multiple rounds, you take turns to auction off art from your hand. The number of paintings sold by an artist determines their eventual value.

The art is interesting. It's definitely a great game to look at.

The basic idea is pretty simple, but there are 4 or more types of auctions, and so it was a bit of reading to get up and running the first time we played. Further games were no problem.

Winning is a matter of balancing the money you take in from auctions, the money you spend at auctions, and the amount you eventually earn from the various' artists eventual popularity (which you can try to predict and/or influence). There's enough there to think about across many games.

So, fun, great to look at, won't get boring after multiple games.
