An Engaging Character Study, and Also a Rom-Com submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 10:04am This romantic comedy is a great example of the type of engaging character study that has become so central to the genre in its modern period. The cast is fantastic, with good chemistry between the leads and supporting actors/actresses who could easily carry their own films. Playing out like a drama, yet always very funny, the film incorporates standard genre tropes (like one heck of a meet cute and a Grand Romantic Gesture) while remaining true to its own story throughout. In the end, the film is as much a meditation on the importance of understanding and moving on from the past as it is a lighthearted romantic romp, and the combination works really well as the genre continues this exciting period of reinvention.
