Classic Quartets submitted by Meginator on August 22, 2022, 10:50am These lively renditions of Mozart’s string quartets emphasize the composer’s inherent playfulness, a trait that becomes easy to forget amid the repetition and cascading motifs that characterize many of these works. It’s kind of a lot to listen to all in one go, and the individual movements (to say nothing of entire quartets) easily begin to blend together, but in moderate doses it’s hard to beat. Given the music’s lively character and the performers’ tendency to play quickly (even in the slower movements), this recording is a great place to begin learning about string quartets and a wonderful rendition for anyone already familiar with Mozart in one of his strongest compositional areas.
