Easy Tree Identification
submitted by BookNerd on June 15, 2022, 12:25pm
Well organized field guide ((4.5 x 6 inches) that uses leaf shapes and attachment structure to quickly narrow down what tree you're looking at.
Index does double duty as a personal checklist, and there are handy "silhouette quick compares" pages that help you identify the trees in the winter when they are leafless. A similar "needle and leaf quick compares" photograph pages speeds up identification as well.
Easy to stow in a backpack pocket, one-handed size for easy use on the trail.
Perfect little guide

Well-organized and has a lot of neat little features - categorizes by leaf structure (lobe/simple, opposite/alternate, etc), also shows silhouette as compared to a two-storey building, has leaf on the page corner, has indexing. Each tree has full color picture, with pictures of fruit, flower, bark. Written descriptions include bark, leaf, fruit, flower, autumn color, which is especially helpful so you can identify in all seasons. Small size and compact, this is definitely a great reference book to own (as much as I love to borrow from the library!)
I'm quite the beginner and felt like I was able to identify maybe 30% of trees I tried to identify with this book. Sometimes there are different variations of a tree but the entry only has the picture of one kind so you think you might have identified something but the picture looks a bit different. Understandable given that there are many tree species but just a caveat
