:DD submitted by Fleabag on July 26, 2021, 9:53am ok, let me start off by saying that this book has quite a few trigger warnings. i'll list them off now. (TW: mentions of abuse, drugs, and guns (not sure how to phrase that))
but don't let that scare you off! closer to nowhere is frankly, a wonderful book. it is a bit heavy, in terms of topics, but if you can handle that, i think you would like it. it's also written in poems, and plays with perspective really well!
a little info before i move on: our two mcs are hannah and cal. they might be cousins, they couldn't be more different.
hannah doesn't understand cal. she finds him annoying, maybe the reason there's been so much stress between her parents. he plays pranks constantly, going into screaming fits, and running away. it's just trouble for her.
cal's mother is dead, his father in prison.
but cal has a lot going on inside his head. a lot more than hannah can even begin to understand. (sorry for this bad ending; but trust me, this is a book you won't wanna miss.)
