A Niche Combo submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2022, 5:48pm This picture book contains a fairly standard sports story, with some subject-specific humor coming from the fact that the underdog trying out hockey for the first time is, in this case, a centuries-old vampire. The visual style works well alongside the text, with a particularly good illustration-only joke on the final page, and the varied page layouts create humorous montage scenes that keep the story moving along. This book will appeal most to readers who particularly enjoy vampires or hockey, but it is also a good choice for anyone who is trying out a new sport/activity and is frustrated by their initial lack of progress.
