As the show's ratings grow, so does Diana Ingram's desire to be in the hotseat with the chance of winning the biggest cash prize in history. Fascinating True Story

This miniseries is a dramatization of a real cheating scandal from the British version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. Though the film doesn’t bother to present a motivation for the main character to participate in the show (which hampers its emotional storytelling quite a bit), the story is incredibly compelling and surprisingly nuanced, open to a number of conflicting interpretations. Instead of demonizing the accused cheaters or the producers who manipulated the damning footage, the story’s third act presents a thick moral quandary that casts significant doubt on the entire situation and asks viewers to think critically about how and why we accept certain stories. I think the ambiguous ending is more satisfying (and probably more accurate) than the contrasting narrative that prevails in the first and second acts, and was surprised to get way more here than a simple true-crime caper. The series takes an interesting story and retells it in a way that reaches for something deeper, without becoming overwhelmingly philosophical or preachy. I would have liked it regardless, but it offered so much more than I expected.
