More Tribute than Documentary, but Excellent submitted by krogers on June 21, 2021, 3:19pm I would call this more of a tribute than a hard-hitting documentary, but I would still recommend it. It did not come across as comprehensive, and I suspect that there are aspects of the man's life that are less than exemplary, but glossed over. Nevertheless, this film was actually exactly what we were looking for. I'm not a country music fan in general, but this was a very touching, kind portrayal of a great "country" artist who actually crossed a number of genres and contributed significantly to musical culture. I learned a lot and did find quite a bit of insightful comments sprinkled throughout. It was actually kind of refreshing to watch a positive, non-expose type of biography about a musician that everyone has heard of, but about whom I really did not know a lot. As you might expect, there was also quite a bit of good music, and the biographers did a good job of explaining why certain songs were significant (in sometimes non-obvious ways) and letting enough of the music play to appreciate it.
