Nice change of pace submitted by sugarmagnolia on June 16, 2012, 12:50pm This was a very slow read, especially compared with anne of the island, but i loved it anyway. It was a nice change of pace, especially in a series that is so long. 5 stars

New Job submitted by Bookbird on June 21, 2012, 7:42pm Anne gets a job as a teacher (again), staying at a place known as Windy Poplars. Part of the story is told in letters. She is trying to make friends as usual, but in a place where the dominate family does not welcome strangers. I had trouble finishing the letters since Anne's talkative (but sweet) nature has her writing a lot. I think this story and series is good for all ages, but especially young adult. I don't think it is very hard to read.

Still Good submitted by kathscot on July 17, 2021, 11:36am Not the strongest in the series, but still interesting characters and some funny exploits as Anne spends 3 years teaching before wedding Gilbert.

Anne away from Avonlea submitted by tuttlium on June 29, 2023, 9:24am Anne and Gilbert get engaged but can't marry until Gilbert finishes medical school. What does Anne do the meantime? Get a job as the principal of a high school in a different town! Anne is less the center of the story here; instead, this book gives Montgomery a way to write about the people in a completely different town than Avonlea. Much of it is told as letters from Anne to Gilbert. As usual, she puts a light touch on tragic stories: the face-blind man whose beloved son dies unexpectedly, leaving him without a mental image of the son; little Elizabeth Grayson, a small child with an absent father being raised by unloving and overbearing relatives; and Pauline Gibson, the patient and completely squashed daughter of a cruel, domineering mother. Montgomery was so good at people.
